As guides with Explore Undredal we love sharing stories of the past.
Undredal is a village where old traditions continue. As you will see in this video the farm has cattle, as was the case for some families in Undredal in those years.
Before the road was built in Undredal the only way to go up to the seters was on foot with the goats. And the budeier, (the dairy maids) would stay up there all summer to milk the goats, and make the brown cheese. Life could be quite tough up there, with no electricity. Luckily they had the fireplace to keep warm while preparing the traditional brown cheese.
And even if today we have a road and a common cheesery where the goat milk is taken, we still take the goats up to the seter by the old path through the woods by the river.
We invite you to discover our hikes to come to our summer farms in Melhus and in Langhuso to meet our goats.
